Fair and Equitable Treatment on Foreign Investment and its Effects Essay - 1

Reasonable and Equitable Treatment on Foreign Investment and its Effects - Essay Example xposes the petitioner to sectional or racial bias, or includes a break of due process†.7 However, the jurisprudential precept of understanding the universal law least standard has likewise been created under global speculation agreements.8 Essentially, there have been two perspectives encompassing the comprehension of the base standard of treatment, wherein penetrates lead to infringement of the FET standard. Right off the bat, the conventional view, comprehends the standard worldwide law least standard as was reflected in the Neer case in the 1920s.9 For example, in Alex Genin v Estonia,10 where the react specialists repudiated the claimant’s bank permit, the council delineated the behaviors that would disregard the base norm; they inferred that they â€Å"would incorporate acts indicating a wilful disregard of obligation, an inadequacy of activity falling far underneath universal principles, or even abstract terrible faith†.11 Thus, it shows up obvious that the court manages the customary view since it accepts that the FET standard would be penetrated in the event that State tries to pull a fast one. Also, the transformative view, thinks about that the standard worldwide law least standard has been developed since the Neer case. For instance, in Azurix case,12 in the wake of investigating a few honors inside and outside NAFTA the court accepted that the base prerequisite to fulfill the FET standard has developed, and held that â€Å"such expectation and dishonesty can exasperate the circumstance yet are not a basic component of the norm. It is likewise comprehended that the lead of the State must be beneath worldwide measures however those are not at the degree of 1927s†.13 Furthermore, in the Railroad case,14 the council additionally talked about the advancement of the base norm and embraced the end that â€Å"the least standard of treatment is continually in a procedure of improvement including since Neer’s formulationâ₠¬ .15 Therefore, subsequent to analyzing the methods of deciphering the FET standard, it is coherent to state that the contention between the likening and plain significance approaches is continually looked into much of the time. This, undoubtedly, shows up in numerous arbitral honors both inside and outside NAFTA, since courts are very hesitant to determine this controversy.16 moreover, speculators nearly receive a costly view, as on account of the Pope and Talbot case, while have States look to help the NAFTA FTC approach of deciphering FET. Be that as it may, it appears that none of the propelled approaches can give convincing motivations to their development of FET, because of the way that â€Å"this discussion is misinformed, and the polarity introduced by

Carol Anne Duffys Adultery Essays - Poetic Rhythm, Duffy, Adultery

Hymn Anne Duffy's Adultery Structure AND STRUCTURE Hymn Anne Duffys sonnet Adultery is organized in a customary and clear way. It is included eleven sections - each with the normal four lines, which comprise of somewhere in the range of four and nine words. This makes the sonnet not especially striking at the main look, before it is perused. The typography doesn't pull in the perusers consideration, this is most likely in light of the fact that Duffy needs the peruser to think on the language, and isn't worried about the shape that the lines structure, or how they identify with the subjects of the sonnet. RHYME AND RHYTHM Duffy doesn't appear to be especially keen on rhyme in this sonnet, and presumably chosen before composing it that she didn't need any. Along these lines rhyme has been kept away from, as has a customary, tedious cadence. I believe that Duffy needs to permit the language to represent itself with no issue, without getting messed up in rhyme and beat plans, also, changing what she needs to state so as to make it fit these confinements. She additionally needs to abstain from losing the effect of the sonnet. This has a lot to do with the language utilized, lovely gadgets, and all the time, the absence of mood, seen obviously in the primary section when she composes: Blame. A wiped out, green tint The caesura separates the line, parting it into two. In the event that she were composing inside the hindrances of a particular musicality, she would likely be enticed, and maybe constrained to, split this line precisely into equal parts, so as to adjust it and keep the structure. This would not have a similar impact. The caesura is utilized as emotional gadget, suggesting that the sonnet is expected to be recited for all to hear. The break makes the peruser delay, giving the principal word a bigger effect as it is secluded from the remainder of the content. It too does likewise for the accompanying sentence, and for what it's worth on the finish of the stanza, there is a regular interruption here too, giving this line effect and force. Seeing as it moreover features a key topic in the sonnet, blame, it is additionally a significant line as it tells the peruser a little about what's in store, and furthermore raises their advantage and desires, Blame? Why? Who? LANGUAGE Duffy utilizes language successfully in this sonnet. She needs to make a explicit climate and afterward expand on it, making characters, circumstances and feelings as she does as such. She needs a climate of unpleasantness and undesirable quality, yet needs it to sound energizing, hazardous and enticing. She likewise inspects the damage that the circumstances cause. The main refrain (or verse) is pressed with interest, riddle, energy and questions. Wear dim glasses in the downpour, requests the main line, and the peruser gets thoughts of camouflage. It proceeds to make reference to safe and wound - dull glasses to conceal a bruised eye? Possibly not, another look at the title, Adultery, proposes something different - sado-masochism? At that point comes the blame, as referenced above, and peruser knows she is discussing a sexual undertaking - however who? What? Where? We need to know more. The subsequent stanza expands on the sexual interest with notices of hands can do numerous things, and cash took care of the palms recommends prostitution, just as wash themselves possibly suggesting that they feel grimy? Duffy is building an environment which is explicitly accused and filled of questions and equivocal remarks, brave the peruser to accept an explicitly connect. The following section includes the line: You are bare under your garments all day..., another sexual implication, maybe suggesting that the garments are a camouflage, and throughout the day the character accomplishes something which isn't generally them, and underneath they are unique, stripped proposes powerlessness. There is likewise ...pushes only you to the brink of collapse... furthermore, ...more, more..., which could propose oral sex, while the reiteration shows that Duffy considers this the most significant expression of the line, requesting it sticks out, and it could propose an unsatisfied sexual craving, or depiction of the recurrence of the couples gatherings. Untruthfulness is referenced with trickery and Suck a lie with an opening in it. This could be an increasingly unequivocal reference to oral sex, or all the more indefinitely, Polo mints, the mint you suck with an opening in it. Duffy could be stating that the falsehoods are sweet, addictive and reviving contrasted and an unremarkable life, similar to Polo mints; she could imply that the untruths come as effectively as desserts from a parcel, albeit most likely not.

Question: What nourishment treatment choices are accessible to patients with these sorts of sustenance confusions? Which sustenance treatment technique would you recommend and why? Are there different contemplations that should be made before making the nourishment treatment proposal to the regulating dietitian and Physician? Answer: Malignant growth is a fatal ailment that can happen in any piece of the body. Metastasis may happen which increments metabolic necessities (Douglas, 2012). There are different treatment modalities for malignant growth as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and careful adjustment that causes different symptoms. The primary difficulties would be sickness, retching and the runs which must be survived and supported with some nourishing methods. The broad chemotherapy and radiation treatment in the stomach zone obliterates both disease and ordinary epithelial covering cells of the gut divider. Thus, the poisonous waste is created that invigorates the queasiness receptors situated in the medulla causing sickness and retching and on the off chance that it is delayed may decrease weight as the patient show. Looseness of the bowels happens because of the fast expansion of epithelial cells to remunerate the lost cells (Douglas, 2012, Langhorne, 2007). Because of colon resection, the length of the colon diminishes that prompts these symptoms. Further HIV additionally causes expanded body squandering thus anorexia, sickness, spewing, looseness of the bowels happens (Douglas, 2012, Langhorne, 2007). There are two significant sustenance treatment alternatives for this patient as enteral and parenteral nourishment. In enteral nourishment, supplements are given through nose/mouth by means of gastro intestinal tract. This assists with addressing wholesome necessities of the patient with queasiness, spewing and loose bowels (Douglas, 2012, Lewis, 2013). Altogether parenteral sustenance, supplements as dextrose, nutrients, minerals, unsaturated fats, electrolytes and follow components are given intravenously (Douglas, 2012). Parenteral nourishment treatment is best as the patient has queasiness, retching and looseness of the bowels and may not endure supplements given enterally. In parenteral treatment the supplements are given intravenously which may decrease these reactions. Both fringe and focal technique could be followed for this sort. As a healthful assistant, we ought to think about moral angles, family wishes and anticipation. The patient is in stage 4 of colon malignant growth and parenteral sustenance is the main choice to spare his life (Langhorne, 2007). The Legacy Of The Civil War Essay - 1471 Words

The year is 1865, Lincoln is dead, and through some convoluted, insane process I am now the President. God help us all. I am faced with the challenge of uniting a fractured nation, war-torn, weary, and directionless. For all the guff Lincoln gave about preserving the union, he did a terrible job. Yes, we are physically one nation, but dominion under continual threat of violence is precisely what our forefathers fought against in the Revolution. If I had been president, this would never have been an issue. The South would have left quietly and peacefully, as I believe self-determination is paramount to a free society. Of course, there was the moral dubiousness of slavery, and while I don’t support the institution, the eventual progress and industrialization of the western world would push slavery into the Northern-styled wage-slavery which exists in factories at this time, and eventually overseas to India and Pakistan, where it exists into the 21st century. Can society exist without slavery? Morally, I hope so. Pragmatically, I doubt it, but that is not the battle I’m fighting today. Besides, the loss of 600,000 lives and copious casualties coupled with the loss of basic life liberty due to the horrid practice of drafting, is objectively worse than the abomination that is slavery. If choosing between two evils, one of which involves actively promoting that evil, I can not in good faith claim that action was jus tified. Slavery is violence, war is violence. Celsus Arguments Against Christianity Essay - 1677 Words

CELSUS 4 arguments against Christianity Misty Fleming Paper 1 The first of 4 arguments I believe to be of importance is that of the virgin birth. Jesus claims to be born of a virgin in the town of Bethlehem. It was said that Jesus was born to a virgin and God himself. When it was time for Mary to give birth she and her husband set off to have God’s son. Because there was no room at an Inn Jesus was born in a stable. On the contrary to what the Christian religion believes Celsus says that Jesus was born to a mother who was a spinner, and his legitimate father a Roman soldier, Panthera (Celsus pg. 57). It seemed as if it were common knowledge the transgressions that Jesus mother had committed with the Roman.†¦show more content†¦Not only was it their moral compass, but also an ironclad duty to guide those under their authority in the ways of rightness. God did not follow this thinking pattern. God was justified by his followers by saying that it was a test they needed to endure. He was never challenged, or even questioned. Questioning seems to be a bit of taboo. Celsus brings up important points about God being unreachable and unable to save them from harm. My thinking on this was that he was sitting up in the sky watching, but doing nothing. Celsus points out that God keeps his purposes to himself for long periods of time and just stands by when evil overcomes good (Celsus pg. 77). Instead of stopping the suffering that going on he continued to let it happen. He just stood by when plagues, fires, earthquakes, and famines riddled the land. It is hard to fathom God being all knowing and all mighty, yet he sits around and watches as thousands of his followers are killed through these disasters that he could have ceased with a single command or swipe of his hand. It does not seem to be something that a God with love for his children would let happen if he truly loved them like Christians claim. Instead his followers continued to believe that they just needed to have faith and they would be delivered. As stated by Attaoui and Poncet, (2013), debt is considered to be the fastest achieved fund in market as they are readily available for business from the lenders such as banks, financial institutions and open market. It provides management of a company to run their day to day operation as well as maintain their growth in retaining fund for capital expenditure which is mainly a way of making assets in the portfolio. As observed by BAGHAI, SERVAES and TAMAYO, (2014), debt management is crucial as it extends the credit risk of a company which might not be in favor of the shareholders. The cost of debt sometimes also noted as cost of bankruptcy if it goes higher and makes the companys credit risk high. Bankruptcy cost is a major problem for the management as they have to avoid this situation for runni ng the operation smoothly as well as to get loans from the company. The creditors do not wish to provide loan to such a company which has higher credit risk as providing any fresh loan at that moment might make their fund to lose and make that sum as a non-performing assets for the lending institutions (Benninga, n.d.). It is a standard style to objectify the loan management for the managers as there are many types of decision making process are included in this process. Risk management as well as return to stakeholders is also dependent on the decision made in controlling debt management. Debt management has many parameters as it consists of different segmental choices short term, long term debt, preferred debt etc. the management of debt also allows a company to decide on the process and route of borrowings as it has also an impact on controlling the debt position of the company (Berk and DeMarzo, 2011). Equity management is one of the most difficult patterns in this case as it is the starting sum that needed for any company to start their business. Further, it is also true that equity may not be the single source for a company to invest and reinvest in their business. However, it is true that company may utilize the incremental equity in reinvestment for expanding the business or in other causes (Brealey, Myers and Allen, 2011). Basically, equity management is an essential part of the fund mobility as well as integrated fund management which may provide a manager in deducing the current situation of transferring funds in different fund as per the requirements of fund. As said by DeAngelo, DeAngelo and Whited, (2011), the equity management mainly consists of managing equity and number of shares which is the part of capital structure, retained earnings and other reserves of the company. Basically, a company needs to comply with reserve management appropriately as it enables the manage ment to make decision on incurring capital expenditure. Equity holds a special relation with debt management as reducing equity value in a capital structure reduce the portion of shares of the shareholders. Further, debt-equity management is important to make decision on dividend policy of the company. Dividend is also a return for the shareholders paying which affect the retained earnings as well as the reserve of retained earnings (Doukas, Guo and Zhou, 2010). Debt-equity management of a company is normally associated with debt-equity ratio of total debt to total equity. The ratio indicates the portion of business is funded by the lenders and the rest of the portion which belongs to the shareholders of the company. Therefore, it is observed that the ratio of debt to equity means many things for an analyst as it provides information on how much the shareholders of a company owe the creditors of their wealth value. However, Komera and Lukose (2014), deduced that current liabilities have limited impact over the equity as well as over the shareholders wealth due to its short life within the business. The higher debt to equity ratio means creditors has higher ratio of right on the profit from the business of the company while companys shareholders also owe much percentage of liabilities - due to becoming shareholders of the company, the liabilities also vested upon them. Conversely, a lower debt-equity ratio is the proof of much higher authorit y as well as rights on the stake of the company for the shareholders due to lower share of creditors. Moles, (2011), stated that strictly speaking, there is no portion of rights of the creditors in a company it is only the right of the shareholders which is normally designated as the right of the company however, legally creditors have stake on the assets of the company due to failing or defaulting of repaying the liabilities creditors might get their fund back from selling the assets of the company. The debt equity ratio varies from company to company as all types of companies do not take huge debt for minimizing the credit risk as it reduces the chance of borrowing lower and also the return to equity becomes poor (Pintus, 2011). However, the companies are engaged in the business of cyclical business as well as where higher rate of sunk and fixed cost is associated they normally borrow much. In debt equity ratio the significant part is for the non-current liabilities which is th e main source of long term fund in business other than equity. Therefore, business is run through evaluating the ratio of liabilities to equity as it provides the key insights of risk associated with debt positioning held by a company. Robin, (2011), observed that higher risk is associated with the business as well as the financial performance of the company due to making the business towards solvency. The horsepower of borrowing is due to its funding power of money in funding a new project either, or running the daily operation. Thereby, debt to equity is also measured evaluating the non-current liabilities to total equity. It also produces the loan funded by the wealth of the shareholders of the company (Ross, 2011). Debt equity management of Shell Plc Total liability of the company has been increased so far during the last five years period where current liabilities of the company have been decreased so far. Total liabilities of the company are the sum of the current and non-current liabilities of the company; thereby, current liabilities and non-current liabilities are the concerning matter for the company. From the below figure 1, we may say that companys management have increased the long term funding in its portfolio of fund as well as investment during the period of 2010-2014 which might be a growing phase of the company. The equity of the company has been volatile in this period as the other reserves have decreased during the period. Retained earnings of the company has grown since 2010 and till date the trend was same due to the managements decision of retaining much rather paying more dividends. The debt and equity management of the company has shown that companys debt to equity ratio is almost same during the period as th e total liability and equity have not been changed much during the period. The total equity of the company has not changed a lot in this case. The total equity was almost same at the end of the period as the total liabilities were same during the period, however; the equity has been low. Further, equity of the company has not made much progress so the ratio of non-current liabilities and equity of the company has been increased due to decreasing of other reserve mainly. Figure 1: Debt and equity management of Shell Plc (Source: Shell.com, 2015) Debt and equity management of BHP Billiton For BHP Billiton, total liabilities of the company have increased during the period both current and non-current liabilities have also increased during this period of the company. Total equity of the company has also increased during the period while the component of equity such as retained earnings as well as other reserves has also increased. This helps the company to maintain the ratio of the debt to equity at almost same at the end of the period. However, the ratio was increased during 2013 and 2012 due to more debt from current liabilities while the non-current liabilities were increased from 2012 onwards. The debt management of the com[any also shows a good decision making ability by controlling the non-current liabilities of the company during the period which was increased in 2012 and stayed almost within the ten percent range in the next two years. The current liabilities of the company was decreased at the end of the period and also the non-current liabilities to equity ra tio have not increased much during the period - also showing the stake of the liabilities funded by shareholders is almost two third of the total capital while the for every two shares, marginal borrowings can be changed. Figure 2: Debt and equity management of BHP Billiton (Source: Bhpbilliton.com, 2015) Comparing the situation of both the company, it can be observed that non-current liabilities to equity ratio of the companies differs from each vast. Onwards 2012, the ratio has increased for Shell Plc while the same ratio has marginally decreased for BHP Billiton during the period. The below figure 3 shows the difference of the periodical ratio of non-current liabilities to equity which depicts that debt and equity management of the company differs due to different decision making in the company and also different strategy intake. Figure 3: Comparative study on debt-equity ratio Analysis on shell 2014 2013 2012 2011 2010 Total debt to equity 1.0436609 0.97359066 0.897176284 1.019011362 1.15355855 noncurrent loan to equity 0.5447085 0.45877404 0.386564312 0.418676865 0.48222727 In the above table, we can see the debt equity ratio of Shell Plc for the year 2014 to 2010 respectively. The ratio of debt to equity is under controlled comparing with the scale of operation of the company in terms of revenue. Further, the ratio between noncurrent loan to equity is also under controlled. However, it is trying to increase during the period as seen from the trend recently. 2014 2013 2012 2011 2010 EBIT 30118 35234 52046 57033 36340 Interest 1804 1642 1757 1373 996 Interest Coverage Ratio 16.695122 21.4579781 29.6220831 41.53896577 36.4859438 2014 2013 2012 2011 2010 Debt To Capital Gearing Total Capital 353116 357512 360325 345257 322560 Equity 172786 181148 189927 171003 149780 Gearing Ratio 2.0436609 1.97359066 1.897176284 2.019011362 2.15355855 From the above table, it can be analyzed that company has enough money to pay its interest payment for the past years and the trend is going to be same in recent future. However, the trend of income from business is very poor during the period as the trend of income is downwards. Therefore, management of the company needs to be cautious about their borrowing cost. The debt gearing ratio depicts that Shell has a trend of running its operation by equity mainly. The last years figure depicts that half part of the whole is run by the equity. However, the limit of running the operation with debt may provide a chance of decrease the cost of interest and increase the return of shareholders by many parts. In this case, the trend of the company is to hike the gearing ratio means increasing the financial leverage in near future. Analysis on BHP Billiton 2014 2013 2012 2011 2010 Total debt to equity 0.561793 0.581052 0.598554 0.440256 0.536824 noncurrent loan to equity 0.544 0.458 0.386 0.418 0.482 The above table shows the debt equity ratio of BHP Billiton where it can be seen that company has low level of current loan during the period. It means company is using its own fund for running the cost of working capital rather depending on current loan from outside. The trend is uptrend means borrowing has increased at the ending period of the duration while current loan has decreased at the end of the period. 2014 2013 2012 2011 2010 EBIT 23412 21002 23752 31816 20031 Interest 1176 1276 730 561 459 Interest Coverage Ratio 19.90816 16.45925 32.53699 56.71301 43.64052 2014 2013 2012 2011 2010 Debt To Capital Gearing Total Capital 151413 142178 129273 102920 88852 Equity 85382 75291 67085 57755 49329 Gearing Ratio 1.77336 1.88838 1.927003 1.78201 1.801212 For the above table, we can see that the company is in a good shape for the last five years. The recent earnings history of the company shows that company can pay its interest from the income from its operation. However, it is also seen that company has better income prior to 2013, when income was 32 times of total cost of interest. Therefore, the trend of earnings of BHP is skeptic for the management. The gearing ratio of the company shows not much volatility in strategy of gearing the companys operation and the borrowing strategy of the company has not much changed during the period. Therefore, it is clear that company has considered running the operation depending on the liabilities and equity in a mixed way. However, capital is geared by the equity mainly. The company has low financial leverage during the period. Recommendations It is recommended that Shell has increased its long term funding by increasing its non-current liabilities while BHP has tried to control its liabilities as a whole by increasing its retained earnings during the period. Further, it is also recommended that both the companies must reduce their long term liabilities unless they have any major expansion plan as well as increase the retained earnings to increase the total equity of the company. It is also recommended that Shell must reduce its borrowing to reduce the financial leverage while BHP must use the current loan for running its working capital cost. How does Shakespeare present the two themes of love and hate in Act One of Romeo and Juliet Essay Example

How does Shakespeare present the two themes of love and hate in Act One of Romeo and Juliet? Essay Star crossed lovers. Romeo and Juliet is the story of two young teenagers who fall deeply in love at a party. However, their families are always fighting from an old argument to a new feud. Therefore they end up getting married secretly. Tybalt who is Juliet cousin is angry at this then he goes to revenge Romeo. In such a way that things get even worsen. Romeo gets banished because he kills Tybalt. A plan to get Romeo and Juliet together goes wrong and they both die. At the beginning of the play there are lots of fights going on between the two families who are the Montagues and the Capulets. Romeo and Juliet are the two main character of the play. Therefore the two main themes of the play are love and hate. The prologue tells the audience that this play will be about two prominent families of Verona who are bitter enemies. From their old argument a new fight begins. When ordinary people will get hurt by their fights. From the fate of these enemies the lovers end the violence by ending their lives. Two unlucky children of these enemy families become lovers and commit suicide. Their unfortunate deaths put an end to their parents feud. The play will last for two hours. Two servants from the house of Capulet, Sampson and Gregory joke about being better than the Montagues. One of those dogs from the Montague house can make me angry. The way these two interact with each other and share their thoughts about Capulets seems very aggressive. They must take it in sense that feel it. Also, the way they talk is very inappropriate and swears too much. Suddenly while they are talking Abram and Balthasar the two servants from the Montagues appear and they start to argue. Sampson starts the fight first by biting his thumb. Benvolio arrives and tries to stop the fight. Put up your swords; you know not what you do. As he tries to keep the peace instead Tybalt appears and attacks Benvolio and they both draw their sword and begin to fight. In addition some citizens join in and shout, Clubs, bills, and partisans! strike! beat them down! / Down with the Capulets! down with the Montagues! . Despite Lord Capulet and Lord Montague arrive and they too begin to fight with one another. The prince is fed up with their fights and tell them off and threatens if they fight in public again exclaiming, If ever you disturb our streets again, Your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace. Benvolio recounts the story of the fight. He tells lady Montague how Romeo has avoided meeting him. Montague confirms that Romeo has been keeping to himself, preferring night and day. Therefore Benvolio promises to find out why Romes sad by talking to him. Romeo says because his love for Rosaline hasnt replied. Benvolio then tries to get Romeo to solve his problem by looking for another woman, but Romeo seems determined to love and suffer. In act one it starts with hate from the fighting between both families. It begins with servants from the two houses but later Tybalt who is very violent, aggressive and mostly a villain of the play and Benvolio who is the peace maker and he doesnt like fighting. Tybalt during the brawl says to Benvolio about the idea of peace, As I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee. By this words Tybalt is telling Benvolio all the Montagues at the same level as hell and is expressing extreme hatred to the Montagues. Benvolio and Mercutio look for Romeo as he hasnt turn up to see them for a while. Benvolio perused Romeo to go to the party. Tybalt has found out that Romeo is at the party And wants to fight with him. He run to his uncle and says. Uncle, this is a Montague, our foe. A villain, that is hither come inspite to scorn at our solemnity this night. However, his uncle doesnt bother and explains to Tybalt Content thee, gentle coz. Let him alone. I would not for the wealth of all the town Here in my house do him disparagement. The next day Tybalt goes to Romeo place to revenge him. He picks up a fight with Mercutio and they start to fight later Tybalt kills Mercutio when Romeo arrives, then Romeo gets angry and kills Tybalt. After a while the Prince arrives, and tells Romeo that he is no-longer allowed to live in Verona. At the start of the act one scene five serving men are very busy working while Capulet welcomes his guests to the party. He gives a speech and jokes with his guests,Welcome, gentlemen! ladies that have their toes / Unplagued with corns will walk a bout with you. It seems that he is very happy and tells everyone to enjoy the party. Romeo sees Juliet and falls instantly in love with her, Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I neer saw true beauty till this night. He never had seen anything beautiful as till this night. He then compares her to a rich jeweller. Tybalt is angry because he sees Romeo at the party. This is to do with the scene one fight. Although Romeo was not at the fight, Capulet tells Tybalt to ignore him. By this Tybalt is annoyed by Capulet and leaves the party. Capulet seems to be a very nice and forgiving person and doesnt want to ruin his party. Romeo and Juliet are in madly in love at fist site. Meanwhile, Romeo touches Juliet hands and kisses her hand saying, o then dear saints let lips do what hands do! They pray: grant thou, lest faith turn to despair. Then Juliet replies saints do not move, through grant for prayers effect I take. As they kiss, nurse arrives and Romeo asks her who Juliets mother is. The Nurse replies that Lady Capulet is her mother. Romeo is shocked and he leaves. Juliet asks Nurse for information about the stranger with whom she has fallen madly in love. The Nurse tells her that his name is Romeo and he is a Montague. She cries My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late!. I think at the end of the scene I felt that it could have been better that they never knew about their family background. But I also think it was their fate and destiny to die together. Overall, I think the most important scenes of the play in Act One scene five is very noticeably helpful. This is because of Capulets speech to set a very welcoming and happy mood of the beginning of the play. Romeo expressing his love to Juliet makes more visual able about how madly he is in love. Tybalt aggressive behaviour and anger represent the conflict between Capulet and Montague and also present the theme of hate. Also between Romeo and Juliet the kiss shows the main theme of love. Shakespeare has presented the two themes of love and hate equally and in such a way that the lovers had to end their lives by stopping the violence between their families.

An Excerpt from Classic Monologue Oedipus the King

An Excerpt from Classic Monologue Oedipus the King This Greek tragedy by Sophocles is based on the ancient legend of a fallen hero.  The story has several interchangeable names including  Oedipus  Tyrannus, Oedipus Rex, or the classic,  Oedipus the King.  First performed around 429 BC, the plot unfolds as a murder mystery and political thriller that refuses to reveal the truth until the end of the play. The Mythic Tragedy Although it was crafted thousands of years ago, the story of Oedipus Rex still shocks and fascinates readers and audience members alike. In the story, Oedipus rules over the kingdom of Thebes, yet all is not well. Throughout the land, there is famine and plague, and the gods are angry. Oedipus vows to find out the source of the curse. Unfortunately, it turns out that he is the abomination. Oedipus is the son of King Laius and Queen Jocasta and unknowingly marries his mother, who he ends up having four children with. In the end, it turns out that Oedipus has also murdered his father. All of this, of course, was unbeknownst to him. When Oedipus discovers the truth of his actions, he is wrought with horror and self-loathing. In this monologue, he has blinded himself after witnessing his wife’s suicide. He now devotes himself to his own punishment and plans to walk the earth as an outcast until the end of his days. What Readers Can Take Away from Oedipus the King The significance of the story surrounds the character development around Oedipus as a tragic hero. The suffering he endures as he goes on his journey in search for the truth is different from his counterparts who have killed themselves, like Antigone and Othello.  The story can also be seen as a narrative around family ideals about a  son who is competing with his father for his mothers attention. The ideals set by Greek society are challenged by the Oedipus character. For example, his personality characteristics such as  stubbornness and anger are not that of the idealized Greek man.  Of course, the theme around fate is central as the gods have willed it toward Oedipus. It is only until he is king of the land that he learns about his dark past. Although he was a model king and citizen, his complexity allows him to be labeled as a tragic hero. An Excerpt of the Classic Monologue from Oedipus the King The following excerpt from Oedipus is reprinted from Greek Dramas. I care not for thy counsel or thy praise; For with what eyes could I have eer beheldMy honoured father in the shades below,Or my unhappy mother, both destroyedBy me? This punishment is worse than death,And so it should be. Sweet had been the sightOf my dear childrenthem I could have wishedTo gaze upon; but I must never seeOr them, or this fair city, or the palaceWhere I was born. Deprived of every blissBy my own lips, which doomed to banishmentThe murderer of Laius, and expelledThe impious wretch, by gods and men accursed:Could I behold them after this? Oh no!Would I could now with equal ease removeMy hearing too, be deaf as well as blind,And from another entrance shut out woe!To want our senses, in the hour of ill,Is comfort to the wretched. O Cithaeron! Why didst thou eer receive me, or received,Why not destroy, that men might never knowWho gave me birth? O Polybus! O Corinth! And thou, long time believed my fathers palace,Oh! what a foul disgrace to human natureDidst thou receive ben eath a princes form!Impious myself, and from an impious race.Where is my splendor now? O Daulian path! The shady forest, and the narrow passWhere three ways meet, who drank a fathers bloodShed by these hands, do you not still rememberThe horrid deed, and what, when here I came,Followed more dreadful? Fatal nuptials, youProduced me, you returned me to the wombThat bare me; thence relations horribleOf fathers, sons, and brothers came; of wives,Sisters, and mothers, sad alliance! allThat man holds impious and detestable. But what in act is vile the modest tongueShould never name. Bury me, hide me, friends,From every eye; destroy me, cast me forthTo the wide oceanlet me perish there:Do anything to shake off hated life.Seize me; approach, my friendsyou need not fear,Polluted though I am, to touch me; noneShall suffer for my crimes but I alone. Is the performance appraisal enough to guarantee better employee Essay

Is the performance appraisal enough to guarantee better employee performance - Essay Example 8) What will be the impact of each alternative on employee performance? 4. Research Design 4.1 Research Method: The research is both descriptive and causal in nature. In the descriptive part, the research will identity the findings of previous researchers regarding the effectiveness of performance appraisal in guaranteeing employee performance. After the descriptive analysis, the research will establish a link between the how strongly related performance appraisal is with employee performance and what other factors might be possible causes of employee performance. Both the primary and secondary sources will be used which are detailed as follows: Secondary Sources: The purpose of the desk research portion of the study is to gain hard data on pre-existing performance appraisal templates and their known outcomes, in real-life business environments, to gain an understanding of how the process is implemented and how employees have historically responded to these methodologies. Consumer behavior Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 1

Consumer behavior - Essay Example Bargh (2002) explains that motivations are inner forces that cause consumers to take action towards satisfying their needs. When a marketer understands the motivating factors that trigger a consumer to visit a show room or actually recognize a need to buy a car, he can get a competitive edge in the industry. Motivation is an important factor especially for Sunny Nissan as the marketing team of the car should understand the motivational factors that will cause the consumers to pay attention to the brand and actually become motivated enough to purchase the car (Nissan 2009) . However, Michael and Dann (2007) point out that recognizing these motivating factors are essential so that the marketers can use these factors in the advertisements or the sales personnel can use these motivating cues to make the consumer want the brand more and encourage him to buy the car. Folkes (1988) adds that knowing about these motivational factors will give Sunny an edge and the marketing efforts will be p roductive as they will affect the consumers. For example featuring a family in the advertisement and how a better looking car resolves family commuting issues and gives the owner a social acceptance will make the viewer relate it to his own personal needs and he may actually be motivated enough to go pout and buy the car. Motivation as Bagozzi and Dholakia (1999) describe therefore is an attempt to recognize the consumer behavior at a micro level. It is when the marketer tries to understand the consumer at an individual or personal level which is very difficult to assess and gauge. The main motivation theory is based on the need factor. With Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs theory, the categories of need can be recognized as physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, esteem needs and self actualization needs. As per the theory, Bargh (2002) explains that the need for Sunny will lie under the social need category. This is

Light intensity Essay Example for Free

Light intensity Essay The set up of the circuit is simple as shown above. The 12-volt lamp is set up in a simple circuit. Then in a SEPARATE circuit, the light dependent resistor is connected to the Multimeter, which shows the resistance readings. If I did connect the LDR in the same circuit, I would almost certainly fry the LDR, and ruin the experiment! I want to keep the distance from the lamp to the LDR the same. I have decided after testing the system, to put the LDR directly under the lamp. This makes me get the best readings for the earlier voltages when the bulb is dim. It also helps to cancel out any other light, which will obviously get in the way more, the further the LDR is from the bulb. I will find out how much this effects the results in the preliminary practical. I will needed to keep the bulb at a set height, perhaps 2cm above the LDR. During the preliminary practical, there are many things I can do to get the optimum results. That includes keeping the distance and height the same, but also taking the correct resistance reading. You can set the resistance readings on the Multimeter to different levels of accuracy. If you dont have a large enough setting, the dial will display one. I will then go down one until I get a suitable answer. I may even have to change the accuracy settings during the preliminary practical, if they become too inaccurate. My independent variable is voltage (potential difference). I will be finding out how the intensity of the light effects resistance of the LDR. I will be going up in gaps of 2 volts, up to 12 or 14 volts, giving me seven readings. I need to make sure I get two, preferably 3 sets of good results, to iron out anomalies, getting a better overall average. Some small errors could creep in when reading off the Multimeter. The resistance readings will start to fluctuate slightly. I will take the best reading I can by waiting until the Multimeter stays on one number. The more accurately I set the Multimeter, the harder this is to do. Of course, this is only an initial method. The preliminary practical will give me a good feel of the equipment, and where things could go wrong. I will be able to change things for the final practical. Preliminary Work I will need to undertake a preliminary practical for many reasons. A preliminary is very good for helping me get a feel for the equipment. I will do it to find out how much resistance there is without the lamp being turned on, to see what effect other light has on the LDR. I will also see if this changes when the LDR is out in the open. From this, I can decide where I will put the LDR in the final experiment. To start with, I will have the LDR directly under the lamp, so as little light as possible gets to the LDR. A second thing I will probably do, is slowly increasing the voltage until a noticeable difference is shown on the LDR. I will also get a good feeling of what I expect to happen in the actual main practical, and where I will be getting anomalous results. I may also be able to predict trends, and alter my graphs. I will only take readings at a few voltages. I may take readings at 4 volts (the lowest reading), 8 (a middle reading), and 12 (the highest reading. These are all of some use, as they will give me an estimate of the trends, and by finding the highest and lowest readings, the range. I will also need, in my preliminary practical, to take down the conditions that the practical is taken in. I will need to make the experiment as fair as possible, so I will need to see where all the extra light is coming from, so I can regulate that in my main experiment, and also things like the vertical distance from the LDR to the lamp.

Launching a Successful Digital Mobile Business Essay -- Apps for Busin

Introduction Since I was a child the idea of being a business owner has been a dream of mine. I never knew the requirements of starting, running or growing a business; however, I knew I needed to design a product to sell. Democratic Society Essay

The conducted study revealed that both external and internal factors are of great importance for facilitation democratic changes in developing countries. Some observers argue that democratic outcomes are strongly related to the extent to which power holders have been encouraged by pressure from various external and domestic sources – for example, internationally, from foreign governments granting financial aid and, at home, from civil and political society to allow citizens greater participation in the political arena. Others suggest that democratic progress is primarily associated with an array of domestic factors affecting political outcomes, including level of economic development, quality of political leadership and political culture. It seems that truth, as usual, lies somewhere in between. Without a doubt, globalization of democratization encourages developing countries to keep up to date and join the process of internationalization of economic growth and get profit from widening of free markets, reinforced by new means of international communication. But our study proves that to promote democratization the developing nation has to maintain multiple domestic conditions such as adherence to sustainable economic development and willingness to allocate public resources in equitable manner, strong middle class, powerful and soundly structured civil society, effectively functioning multi-party system, and liberal political culture. Thus, economic development proved to be the most important predictor of democratization. It seems that, once a country achieves a certain degree of economic development, additional economic growth is an important ingredient for the developing country’s continued progress toward further democratization. Our study demonstrated that continued democratization of developing countries depends heavily on their economic liberalization, supported by the increased purchasing power of the people. The empirical findings cited in our study clearly showed that the ‘unique’ Confucian or Islamic political culture/civilization does not prevent the internationalization of national economies from affecting the degree of democracy. It seems, therefore, that states may be able to delay, but not negate, the process of political liberalization induced by economic liberalization. As the economic opportunities increase for individuals and private businesses, their awareness of the potential for improving their civil liberties also increases. Subsequently, they will begin to demand more freedom. It seems, therefore, that the improvement of the standard of living and the popular involvement in the economic and political decision-making are critical for long-term democratization in developing countries. The Myth of Theseus Free Essay Example, 1500 words

Like Perseus, he too grew up without his father. Perseus and Theseus both proved their worth and their strength as heroes many times over through their battles; at one point, they even rescued their princesses from dark powers (Booker, pp. 276-277). Such similarities, as brave warriors, are seen in the heroic deeds of other Greek mythological heroes like Achilles, Jason, and Heracles. Like these heroes, Theseus also showed great strength and skill in battle. This is what made him stand out at a very early age, and what prompted his mother Aethra to reveal to him his noble heritage (Godwin, p. 252). This strength and skill helped him lift the rock which hid symbols and evidence of his heritage; it allowed him to survive many battles; it also allowed him to kill the Minotaur, and it eventually allowed him to rightfully claim his place as his father s heir while keeping his greedy cousins at bay (Warner, pp. 24-27). At the very core of his character, Theseus is a very honorable ma n as he always fought on the side of what was right and what was noble, even at great cost to his life. However, as a hero, he also possessed a tragic element to his character, and this element can largely be attributed to his bad qualities. He can also be labeled as ungrateful when he abandoned Ariadne on an island, even after the latter helped him defeat the Minotaur (Garland, p. 204). Theseus also had an unhealthy appetite for women; he was renowned for his amorous affairs. The consequences of these affairs often proved to be unfortunate and disastrous. His abduction of the Amazon Antiope prompted the Amazons to invade Attica (Warner, p. 28). He, along with Peirithoos abducted Helen and Persephone.
